Brand Protection Intern, Summer 2018

BACKGROUND:

In 1998 we started our first website, PromGirl.com, with a simple premise: people should have access to the top special occasion dresses and they should be able to shop for them online.

Fast forward to 2018 and Occasion Brands has become the leading special occasion retailer online with three brands - PromGirl, SimplyDresses, and Kleinfeld Bridal Party. We are continuously growing and have plans to introduce new special occasion stores online under the Occasion Brands umbrella. We have also brought the PromGirl experience offline with the opening of our pop-up store this past January.

 

DESCRIPTION:

Occasion Brands is seeking a Brand Protection Intern for the Summer 2018 semester. This is the perfect opportunity for students from a wide variety of disciplines, including law, social science, criminal justice, business, marketing, communications, and others, who are interested in exploring the area of brand protection, anti-counterfeiting and intellectual property rights. As a member of our nimble team you will have an immediate impact on our business and see your ideas comes to life and your contributions put to immediate use. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft and send cease and desist letters, takedown requests and DMCA letters for the removal of counterfeit and infringing items across different channels, including rouge websites, marketplaces and social media platforms
  • Monitor and take action against merchants who offer infringing goods through marketplaces such as Alibaba, Amazon, eBay, DHGate, Wish, etc.
  • Monitor, track and take action against counterfeiters’ marketing efforts, including advertising activity on platforms like Google, Bing, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Research and test new techniques and solutions that aid in IP protection
  • Review and follow up on data from internal company reports
  • Assist in identifying and executing different brand protection programs, employee and consumer education initiatives, and/or PR opportunities

 

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple projects from initiation to conclusion
  • Must be able to attend to details, multitask, and prioritize tasks with shifting priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Willing and able to follow through on complex issues
  • Experience with internet and electronic research and investigation a plus
  • Familiarity with copyright and trademark law and infringement disputes a plus
  • Proficiency in Google Drive and Microsoft Office, especially Google Sheets and/or Excel a plus

 

INTERNSHIP DETAILS:

TERM:                       June - August 2018 (start and end dates are flexible)
SCHEDULE:             Flexible (typical internships are 15-18 hours/week)
COMPENSATION:    College credit with a small travel stipend
